Police Arrest 11 Suspected Armed Bandits, Injure Five Others In Niger

The Police have arrested 11 suspected armed bandits and injured five others during a clearance operation on their hideout in Tunga-iliya forest in Mashegu LGA.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer, ASP. Wasiu Abiodun, the team engaged the suspected bandits in a gun duel and arrested eleven suspects while five others were fatally wounded.

Among the suspects arrested includes the village head of Tunga-iliya and one Summaya Bello ‘f’ who harbours and gives information to the bandits.

However, all the suspects are under investigation and will be prosecuted as soon as the investigation is concluded

Clearance operation is an ongoing exercise launched by the Niger State Police Command with a view to flush out bandits from their hideouts out of the state.

Similarly, on the same date at about 0330hrs, information was received that an unknown gunman invaded Unguwan Gambo in Kwange village via Gunna district area of Rafi LGA where the hoodlums allegedly kidnapped four victims.

A team of Policemen mobilized to the scene and one of the bandits was fatally shot during the exchange of gunfire. One of the victims was rescued unhurt while efforts to rescue the remaining victims and arrest the hoodlums are in progress.

The Niger State Police Command under the leadership of CP ADAMU USMAN assures the good people of Niger State that the command will not relent in its effort towards ensuring their safety, protection of lives and properties, and a more conducive and secured environment across the state.
